Profile
Anouk grew up in the small city of Wijk bij Duurstede in the Netherlands. After finishing high school she spent a year in Kyoto teaching conversational English and fell in love with Japan and its culture. She went on to study Molecular Science and Technology, a joint degree between Delft University of Technology and Leiden University, and received her BSc degree in 2015. Her Bachelor thesis work in the group of Supramolecular and Biomaterials Chemistry, supervised by Dr. Nestor Lopez Mora and Prof. Alexander Kros, concerned GUV-LUV fusion using coiled coil peptide interactions. When, during her Supramolecular Chemistry course for the Master Chemistry at Leiden University, she read a publication by the Fujita group she was intrigued by their approach and way of dealing with problems, and she applied for a 5-month internship position as a Master student. Apart from learning new experimental techniques, she hopes to gain new insights on how to handle different scientific problems, and gain an understanding of the way scientific research is conducted in Japan.
