PD
KaKing was born in Guangzhou, China and raised in Hong Kong. He received his B.S. at Binghamton University, NY, USA. In 2006, he moved to Iowa State University to start his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Aaron Sadow. His graduate work was focused on syntheses of early transition metal and lanthanide organometallic complexes containing beta-hydrogen and studying their roles in catalysis-relevant elemental steps, for example, beta-hydrogen elimination, beta-hydrogen abstraction. After his PhD, he moved to California to join the research group of Prof. Ken Raymond (co-advised by Profs. Bob Bergman and Dean Toste) at UC Berkeley in 2013 as a post-doc. There, he was exposed to and fell in love to the beauty of supramolecular chemistry. In 2015, he moved to University of Tokyo to join the group of Prof. Makoto Fujita for his second postdoc position to learn about crystalline sponge method. Outside of lab he enjoys watching baseball (Go Red Sox!) and American football (Go Patriots!), beer and exploring different aspect of life in Japan.
